Ephemera

The ramblings of a lunatic expat.

I am Californian who relocated to Melbourne, Australia in 2006..

I'm a manicurist and a madwoman and I do a damn good job at both.

My friend Jessie and I were were talking about this! And about passing a law in California requiring California schools to go to metric. I said that making all the schools get new rulers would cost too much money, and thus, never get passed. I’m a downer like that sometimes.

The 7 yrs my kids attended school in California (albeit private school), they were taught metric. However, it’s much like learning a foreign language you never practice. School was the only place they regularly used metric measurements.

The first time I went grocery shopping in Australia on my own, I got up to the deli counter to get some ham and I realized I had absolutely no clue how much to order. I hung back and let a lady go in front of me, and eavesdropped. Then I just asked for the same amount she got.
The one I can’t wrap my head around is kilojoules instead of calories. But it’s not like I ever paid attention to calories in the first place.

It’s not that hard! Just memorize the conversions so you can do them in your head.
